Progesterone is a hormone which prepares the uterus for the implantation of a fertilized egg and maintains the resulting pregnancy. A derivative of this hormone is used as part of the birth control pill.   Testosterone is a hormone which promotes male development and stimulates protein synthesis. This drug is used illegally by some athletes for increasing muscle mass.
